Richard M. Thigpen joined the Panthers in July, 1997, as Associate General Counsel and became General Counsel at the end of May, 1998. Richard was in private practice for 13 years before joining the Panthers, specializing in health care, corporate and tax law. While in private practice, he provided counsel to the Panthers on a variety of legal matters, including issues related to the financing and construction of Bank of America Stadium. As General Counsel, Richard is involved in everything from contracts to trademark issues to employment matters.
Richard received his undergraduate degree fromDukeUniversity, his law degree fromCampbellUniversity, and a Masters of Laws in Taxation fromGeorgetownUniversity. He first practiced with Moore & Van Allen, PLLC, before helping establish aCharlotteoffice for Poyner & Spruill, LLP. His last two years of private practice were with Kirk Palmer & Thigpen, P.A. Richard was born December 31, 1955 inChapel Hill. He and his wife, Kathryn, live in Charlotte with their twin daughters, Sophie and Marielle. Richard also has three sons: Justin, Christopher and Nicholas.
