James Snyder, SVP, General Counsel & Secretary Family Dollar Stores

Jim Snyder is the Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary of Family Dollar Stores based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Snyder began working with Family Dollar in 2009 and is responsible for managing the Legal and Risk Management Departments. He also has oversight responsibility for the Company’s Compliance and Governmental Affairs functions.

Family Dollar is one of the fastest growing discount retail chains in the United States. Family Dollar offers a core assortment of name-brand and quality consumable merchandise supplemented by fashion and seasonal merchandise at everyday low prices. Family Dollar currently operates about 6,700 stores and is a Fortune 300 company.

Prior to joining Family Dollar Jim worked with The Home Depot in Atlanta, Georgia from 2001 – 2009. Prior to working with Home Depot he was a Litigation Partner at King & Spalding where he focused on advising clients on complex litigation matters, regulatory compliance issues and corporate compliance programs.

Mr. Snyder graduated with a B.A. in economics from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. He received his law degree with honors from George Washington University Law School.

Neither plaintiff nor the individual defendants are Texas residents; nevertheless, each of the individual defendants’ employment agreements includes an unambiguous and mandatory forum selection clause, which says any lawsuit involving the agreement must be brought in Harris County, Texas. The employment agreements were entered into by plaintiff’s predecessor and the individual defendants, who apparently did not live in Texas when they entered into the contracts and thus apparently anticipated interstate travel in the event of a trial.
