New site gathers school, pay data for paralegals
A new resource for paralegals, www.howtobecomeaparalegal.com, was put online this summer by its creator, Shelby Crockett. In addition to comprehensive information about paralegal schools and programs throughout the country, the site also offers Crockett’s take on the 25 most popular software applications for paralegals and the 25 essential reference books for the profession.
“I created [the site] as a resource for students to find in-depth and unbiased information about becoming a paralegal,” Crockett said. “Currently, I think it’s the only site that lists every accredited school on the web.”
The list of software resources includes costs, in most cases, and highlights of the programs that may be useful for paralegals. Similarly, the list of books comes with “mini reviews” offering Crockett’s take on each text.
Crockett explained that she designed the site as an aid to other people who are either working as paralegals or searching for more information about the career field. It also is searchable by zip code, allowing users to find programs in their geographical area. Information also is provided about average paralegal salaries, program rankings and other areas.
