Did you — or one of your clients — get caught blasting through Rocky Mount on Highway 64 en route to the beach this summer? If you want to sing “mea culpa” and avoid a return trip to traffic court, Edgecombe County is now accepting the online payment of fines at www.payncticket.org.
The site, which the Administrative Office of the Courts developed, lets lead-footers cop a plea and pay their fines from the comfort of their keyboard.
Of course, convenience doesn’t come free. The site indicates that a third-party facilitates the transaction, so “an additional fee will be charged by the vendor for processing your electronic payment for this citation.” The processing charge is based on the amount of the fine, meaning that traffic crime really does pay – at least for the facilitator.
