The finish line is in sight for 22 candidates for the state’s appellate courts. Voters will go to the polls Nov. 2 to select judges for four Court of Appeals seats and one Supreme Court seat.
One Court of Appeals candidate is running unopposed, but in another race, 13 candidates are running head-to-head and voters will be asked to mark their first, second and third choices in a first-ever statewide test of an instant-runoff system.
The winners will have an effect on North Carolina law for years to come. Lawyers Weekly asked each of them to tell us why they are qualified and to discuss an important appellate court opinion.
