JACKSONVILLE (AP) — A Richlands couple has appeared in court to answer allegations that they haven’t paid state income tax in several years.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that 48-year-old Robert W. Brownfield and 40-year-old Mary Brownfield appeared in court in Wake County District Court Raleigh this week.
Robert and Mary Brownfield face multiple charges, including willful attempt to evade taxes and willful failure to file income tax returns. An investigator said the Brownfields filed fraudulent N.C. Individual Income Tax Returns from 2004 through 2007 by claiming they had no taxable income when they did.
Robert Brownfield is also accused of forging a Miscellaneous Income Statements form.
An officer at the Onslow County jail said the Brownfields are no longer in custody. It’s not known if they have attorneys.
