SPENCER (AP) — Authorities say a former foster parent who lived in Spencer is accused of sex crimes against children, and investigators want anyone who believes they were victimized to come forward.
William Wayne Jones is being held at the Rowan County Detention Center on $1 million bond after he was extradited from Tennessee. Jones is charged with four counts of sexual offense and four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
Investigators say the crimes occurred between January 2002 and May 2005 at the home Jones shared with his wife.
Jones and his wife were formerly licensed foster parents, responsible for children placed in their care from November 2001 to March 2004.
Jones was interviewed by Tennessee detectives and the information was sent to Spencer police, whose investigations led to Jones’ arrest.
