RALEIGH (AP) — A chairman of the state House Finance Committee says he’s stepping down over displeasure with decisions of the Republican-led legislature and mistreatment from Speaker Thom Tillis.
Rep. Robert Brawley of Mooresville issued a resignation letter Wednesday on the House floor.
Brawley claimed Tillis intimidated him over a bill broadening the service area of local cable provider MI Connections because Tillis has a business relationship with Time Warner Cable. Tillis’ spokesman said he isn’t aware of any relationship.
He also called a 2012 bill giving bail bond agents one choice for training a “monopoly” for bondsmen, including Republican Rep. Justin Burr of Albemarle.
Brawley said he was asked to resign by Tillis over negative comments on a bill authorizing toll roads in the state. Tillis’ spokesman says the decision was mutual.
