Body found in ditch near Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY (AP) — Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body in ditch about six miles south of Elizabeth City.
Pasquotank County Sheriff Randy Cartwright said the body was found late Thursday morning in a ditch beside a road in Weeksville.
Cartwright did not release a description of the body or provide any other details. He says the body has been sent to Greenville for an autopsy.
Cartwright says officials hope to get an identity after the autopsy.
He says Elizabeth City police and the State Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the case.
