Woman returns home, finds gifts missing

HICKORY (AP) — A Hickory woman says she forgives the people who broke into her house, ransacked most of the rooms and stole her daughter’s Christmas presents.

The Hickory Daily Record reported that police said 53-year-old Paula Hardin lost two televisions, jewelry, gift cards, a checkbook and a cellphone. She said thieves even stole food from her cupboards.

Investigators think the theft occurred sometime after noon Monday, before she got home from work.

Hardin said someone brought her family a television late Monday night and others went out in search of replacement gifts.

Hardin said she has already forgiven those responsible for the thefts because that’s what Jesus would want. She said she hopes they didn’t trade the gifts for drugs and that their family needed them more than hers did.
