GREENSBORO (AP) — Law enforcement officials say half the 26 homicides in Guilford County in 2013 were the result of domestic violence, a big increase from the year before.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported that six of 29 homicide victims in 2012 were victims of domestic violence.
Of the 2013 homicides, 23 occurred within the jurisdiction of the Greensboro Police Department. Officers investigated 11 domestic deaths, an increase from 2012’s total of three.
Capt. Mike Richey says it’s often hard to prevent homicides with domestic ties because people don’t seek help. Greensboro police had contact with only two of the 11 families before domestic homicides.
