Man charged with threatening Raleigh mayor

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A man accused of threatening Raleigh’s mayor through her website has been indicted on a federal charge.

Twenty-seven-year-old Alec Dane Redner was in court last week on a federal charge of communicating a threat against an individual.

Redner was initially arrested in January after authorities say he sent Mayor Nancy McFarlane a message telling her to “watch out” and that she would soon be “on the other end of the barrel.”

A state case on charges including obstruction of justice and threatening an executive, legal or court officer was dismissed after a federal grand jury indicted him in March.

McFarlane hasn’t spoken publicly about the case, but in a February court hearing, Assistant District Attorney Jeff Cruden said she was terrified for her safety and the safety of her family.
