FOREST CITY (AP) — The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy has been shot and wounded after an eight-hour standoff and shootout with a suspect.
Authorities tell local media outlets that deputies were called just before 8 p.m. Monday about a man who was allegedly threatening people at a home in Forest City.
Deputies say a man came outside the home, fired on deputies and went back inside. Some deputies were hurt by flying glass. One was shot and was taken to a hospital early Tuesday.
Deputies returned fire and used tear gas. Sheriff Chris Francis says the suspect, 49-year-old Kevin Marks, was injured and was taken to a hospital.
The deputy’s name hasn’t been released, and information on Marks’ condition wasn’t immediately available.
