SBI reviewing 2 Hope Mills police shootings

HOPE MILLS (AP) — The State Bureau of Investigation is continuing to review two fatal police shootings in Hope Mills earlier this year.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that four police officers are still on administrative duties as the SBI review is concluded.

District Attorney Billy West will review the SBI reports and decide whether the officers acted properly.

On June 19, Officers Kristen Thompson and Brad Dean shot and killed 53-year-old Darrell Haymon, who was stabbing his wife in the parking lot of a bank. The woman survived the attack.

On Feb. 1, Detective Jacob Pfeffer and Officer Matt Norris were involved in a chase and shooting that killed 25-year-old Kevin Dejon Grissett of Fayetteville.

Police said Grissett lunged at Pfeffer after striking both his car and Norris’ patrol car.
