Fire truck in Gaston County hits, kills pedestrian

RANLO (AP) — The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a man has been struck and killed by a fire truck as he stepped into the middle of the road in Gaston County.

The man was struck around 6 p.m. Thursday in Ranlo.

Authorities said the man was walking home from a bar when he was hit by the Ranlo Fire Department truck. His name has not been released.

The Highway Patrol says the man was not in a crosswalk. Investigators said the fire truck was driving slower than the speed limit.

No charges are planned.
