WAKE FOREST (AP) — A high school football coach in Wake County has been suspended after he was charged with driving while impaired.
Multiple media outlets reported that 43-year-old Reggie Lucas of Wake Forest High School was charged after being pulled over late Wednesday night.
School spokesman Matt Dees confirmed that Lucas has been suspended.
Lucas has been the Cougars coach since 2007 and has compiled an 84-17 record while leading the school to the state championship game twice.
WTVD reported Lucas was charged after tests revealed he had a blood alcohol level of .17, which is more than twice the legal limit.
It was not clear if he has an attorney.
This year’s team is undefeated and was to face Leesville Road in the opening round of the state 4AA playoffs Friday.
