Grand Strand job growth among fastest in the country

Associated Press//November 17, 2014

MYRTLE BEACH (AP) — The rate of job growth along South Carolina’s Grand Strand has been one of the fastest in the nation during recent months.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Myrtle Beach Metropolitan Area had the sixth highest rate of job growth nationally between August 2013 and August of this year.

The metropolitan area includes South Carolina’s northeast coast as well as Brunswick County in North Carolina.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 5,500 new jobs have been created, many in the tourism industry.

The newspaper reports that part of the increase is due to South Carolina’s $18 billion tourism industry recovering from the Great Recession and the expansion of the traditional summer season into spring and fall months.
