CHARLOTTE (AP) — An inmate has pleaded guilty in the stabbing death of another inmate at a prison in Anson County.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Gregorio Cortez Vazquez pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in court in Wadesboro and was sentenced to up to 16 years in prison.

Investigators said Wesley Turner was stabbed to death Sept. 28, 2012, during a disturbance at the Lanesboro Correctional Institution.

Joel Corto Ortiz pleaded guilty to felony assault with a deadly weapon for stabbing another inmate who was seriously hurt in the fight. Ortiz was sentenced to up to five years in prison.

A third inmate, Julio Alberto Zelaya-Sorto, pleaded guilty last month and was sentenced to up to four years in prison.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been reviewing prison operations.
