Bill Daughtridge, North Carolina’s secretary of administration, has been appointed a commissioner of the state’s Industrial Commission, Gov. Pat McCrory’s office announced Feb. 12.
Daughtridge fills the vacancy created when former commission chair Drew Heath was appointed to serve as McCrory’s budget director. As an emergency appointment, he will take office immediately and is subject to confirmation by the General Assembly.
The secretary of administration is often referred to as the “business manager” of state government. Kathryn Johnston, deputy secretary of service operations, has been named to serve as acting secretary. Daughtridge, a former state representative, had been secretary since January 2013.
