Civil Practice – Involuntary Commitment – Danger to Self – Nighttime Wandering

In re M.C. (Lawyers Weekly No. 012-218-16, 8 pp.) (Richard Dietz, J.) Appealed from Mecklenburg County District Court (David Strickland, J.) N.C. App. Unpub.

Holding: Wandering onto other people’s property, particularly late at night and while susceptible to bouts of odd behavior, creates a substantial risk that respondent could be harmed, even if she poses no actual threat to herself.

We affirm respondent’s involuntary commitment.
