Greenville attorney suspended

Attorney: Darnell Parker

Location: Greenville

Bar membership: Member since 1997

Disciplinary action: Suspended from the practice of law for two years on Dec. 12. The suspension is stayed for two years as long as Parker complies with certain conditions.

Background: The bank with which Parker maintained his trust account informed the State Bar that a check written against the account was presented against insufficient funds. When the bar asked Parker to provide an explanation for the overdraft, he explained that he was overdrawn on four client accounts and had mistakenly deposited $545 of entrusted funds into his personal account, and that he had replenished those funds. The state bar found that Parker had failed to maintain accurate client ledgers and did not meet with his bookkeeper on a regular basis to ensure that this trust account with in compliance with all rules. A random audit of Parker’s trust account in 2001 had found deficiencies including failures to conduct quarterly reconciliations and maintain client ledgers.

Previous discipline: None
