Assistant DA in North Carolina facing drug charges

GASTONIA (AP) Authorities say an assistant North Carolina district attorney has been arrested on several drug charges.

News outlets report police in Waxhaw said officers stopped Gaston County Assistant District Attorney James Brandon Graham on April 22. The Union County Sheriff’s Office said Graham was stopped for speeding, having an expired tag and an inspection violation.

According to a police report, officers found heroin and methamphetamine inside his car, as well as a syringe which contained heroin.

The 47-year-old Graham is charged with possessing heroin, possessing methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia as well as the traffic violations.

Graham is free on a $1,000 bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.

District Attorney Locke Bell wouldn’t say whether Graham was still employed by his office, adding that Graham did handle drug cases.
