Governor Roy Cooper has appointed S. Katherine (Kat) Burnette to serve as a District Court Judge for Judicial District 9, serving Franklin, Granville, Vance and Warren counties. The appointment was announced Oct. 10.
Burnette will fill the vacancy created by Judge Carolyn J. Thompson, who was appointed to serve as a Superior Court judge earlier this year.
Burnette has practiced law in North Carolina for over 33 years and has served on the North Carolina Board of Elections, the North Carolina Board of Ethics and the North Carolina State Personnel Commission, according to a press release from the governor’s office. She has also been an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
