Attorney who stole money from courthouse suspended

Disciplinary action: Suspended from the practice of law until further notice on Nov. 26

Background: On Feb. 12 MacGilvray was arrested for stealing $1,600 in cash from a wallet that he found on the floor of the Wake County Courthouse. According to police, MacGilvray removed the cash from the wallet before turning it over to courthouse personnel. On Oct. 26, MacGilvray pleaded guilty to misdemeanor larceny and received a suspended sentence. The state bar requested that MacGilvray be placed on interim suspension while it pursues disciplinary action against him, and MacGilvray consented to the suspension order.
