Raleigh attorney reprimanded

Attorney: Alan T. Briones Jr.

Location: Raleigh

Bar membership: Member since 1997

Disciplinary action: Reprimanded on Jan. 3

Background: Briones was retained to represent a client who was seeking time-sensitive injunctive relief based on a breach of contract. Without advising the client of any reason why he was not filing for injunctive relief, Briones offered excuses for the delays and eventually prepared a general civil complaint that included significant errors. Briones also assured the client that he had filed an amended complaint several days before the complaint was actually filed. Over the course of the representation, Briones repeatedly failed to communicate with the client about the status of his claim or a strategy for pursuing his interests. Additionally, in response to the grievance, Briones claimed not to have heard from the client over a period during which he actually exchanged several text messages with the client.

Previous discipline: None
