Black school worker says boss complained about her hair

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina school district says a black employee’s workplace harassment lawsuit should be dismissed because she hasn’t been able to point to any institutional racial discrimination.
Kimberly Tigner is a career development liaison for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, where she says she’s been bullied by a supervisor. Tigner says her boss complained about her natural hair and humiliated her by having white colleagues sign a petition describing her hair as unprofessional.
The Charlotte Observer reports Tigner said the supervisor also used school computers to try to figure out if her son was a felon when he stopped by her workplace, leading to his suspension from school.
The district says Tigner hasn’t pointed to any “official policy, practice or custom of institutional racial discrimination.” She filed a motion in opposition Wednesday.
