Background: Owen misappropriated $3,248.50 in entrusted funds in conjunction with various real estate closings and then used those entrusted funds for the benefit of someone other than their beneficial owners. Although Owen was licensed to practice law in North Carolina, she was not actively practicing there when the misappropriation occurred, and was practicing in Florida. Owen surrendered her law license voluntarily, acknowledging that the facts upon which the state bar’s investigation was based are true, and if disciplinary charges were predicated on the misconduct she could not successfully defend against them.
