Michael Best, a national law firm, announced that it has acquired Forrest Firm in a strategic combination. Michael Best will add 23 lawyers and 13 professionals from Forrest Firm and gains offices in Asheville, Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro, Greenville, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem to join its existing office in Raleigh.

Jonathan Y. Ellis, a former Assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General, has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in Raleigh and Washington, D.C., and co-leader of the firm’s appeals and issues team. During his tenure at the Office of the Solicitor General from 2017 to 2021, Ellis argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Cranfill Sumner announced that Steven Bader, Stephen Bell, and Charles Hicks have been named partners in the firm. Bader and Hicks are in the firm’s Raleigh office, and Bell is in its Wilmington office.

Cranfill Sumner also announced that Deedee Gasch, a partner in the firm’s Raleigh office, has been named the chair of its retail, restaurant and hospitality practice group.

Robinson Bradshaw announced that Jason S. Kerr, Brian J. Litwak, and Sandra K. Wilburn have been elected new shareholders. Kerr and Litwak practice out of the firm’s Charlotte office, and Wilburn is located in its Research Triangle office.

Ellis & Winters in Raleigh announced that Luke Farley, Ginger Hunsucker, and Michelle Liguori have been elected to the firm’s partnership, effective Jan. 1.

Alston & Bird announced that Stephen Lareau and Debra Lofano in the firm’s Charlotte office have been elected to the firm’s partnership, effective Jan. 1.

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings announced that G. Benjamin Milam and Jonathan Schulz in the firm’s Charlotte office have been elevated to partner, effective Jan. 1.

Young Moore announced that Susan (Sue) H. Haberberger has been named a shareholder of the firm, effective Jan. 1.

Nelson Mullins announced that Carla Ludwig in the firm’s Raleigh office has been elected to the firm’s partnership, effective Jan. 1.
