Inventor wins $1.9M in dispute over patent bonuses (access required)

Cary inventor Paul Morris’ ideas could net his former employer, patent-holding company Scenera Research, as many as 200 patents. It’s a healthy chunk of intellectual property for which a North Carolina Business Court jury says the company owes Morris $1.9 million for reneging on a bonus agreement covering Morris’ patent applications in 2008 and 2009.

The plaintiff, a herbicide technician with the N.C. Department of Transportation, suffered back injuries that required a spinal implant and lumbar fusion surgery.
