Deferred-action clients inundate local immigration attorneys (access required)


Immigration lawyers in the Carolinas began preparing for an influx of clients back in June when President Barack Obama announced a deferred-deportation program, but many still weren’t ready for the deluge that followed. “It’s been nonstop, crazy. We’ve had to turn people away,” said Ann Marie Dooley, one of two full-time immigration attorneys at McKinney, Perry & Coalter in Greensboro, which has been offering free screening clinics for deferral applicants.
