Theresa Viera is the founder of Modern Legal in Charlotte, with 14 years of practice concentrating in family law. She is a NC DRC Certified Mediator and family law arbitrator who served as chair of the Mecklenburg County Bar Family Law Section and completed its Bar Leadership Institute in 2025.

Viera founded Modern Legal with a practice philosophy that combines courtroom readiness with resolution-focused strategy — matching the process to what a family truly needs rather than defaulting to litigation. She hosts the Legal Lounge podcast, which she said exists to combat misinformation and empower people with reliable family law guidance before they make life-changing decisions.

She said she chose family law because of lived experience — growing up in a home affected by domestic violence and witnessing firsthand the difference a capable, steady family law attorney can make when a family is trying to break free and rebuild. She became the first lawyer in her family.
