Retired judge recalled to service on Bankruptcy Court

The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals has recalled retired Judge George R. Hodges to serve as a bankruptcy judge in the Western District of North Carolina.

Hodges’ recall is effective Dec. 1, an order signed by the court’s chief judge, Albert Diaz, and his term will end by Dec. 1, 2025. He will serve in Charlotte and Asheville.

Hodges, who retired in 2011, was recalled in response to the Judicial Council‘s determination that the services of a retired bankruptcy judge are needed in the 4th Circuit.

The council appointed Hodges under the authority of 28 U.S.C. § 155(b), which permits retired judges to be recalled with their consent, the order says. Hodges will not have staff support during this term.

Hodges will receive compensation equal to the difference between his retirement pay and the current salary of a full-time bankruptcy judge.
