Mayfield v. Nat’l Ass’n for Stock Car Auto Racing Inc. Race car driver Jeremy Mayfield, who was suspended by NASCAR after testing positive for methamphetamine, cannot overturn dismissal of his suit against NASCAR including claims for defamation and breach of contract, as he has waived his claims under agreements he signed with NASCAR; the 4th Circuit says the district court properly dismissed Mayfield’s case and did not abuse its discretion in denying defendant’s motions to reconsider and to amend.

In re Inquiry Concerning Judge Hartsfield After being privately cautioned by the Judicial Standards Commission, respondent continued to have ex parte communications with traffic court defendants and to make decisions in traffic cases when the defendant was not present, not represented, and had not consented to judgment. Respondent thereby engaged in willful misconduct in office and conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice that brings the judicial office into disrepute.

In re Petition for Reinstatement of McGee There is an administrative procedure for having a suspended law license reinstated; it is set out in 27 N.C.A.C. § 01B.0125(b). Petitioner cannot avoid this procedure by simply moving to amend the records of the State Bar to say that his law license had been reinstated and to strike portions of the Bar’s record reflecting otherwise. We affirm the Disciplinary Hearing Commission’s denial of petitioner’s motion to amend the Bar’s records.
