The results are in: 56.04 percent of test-takers pass February bar examination

The North Carolina Board of Law Examiners on April 6 released results for the February 2026 bar examination, with 364 total applicants sitting for the exam and 204 passing, for an overall pass rate of 56.04 percent. First-time takers fared significantly better, with 169 of 226 passing for a pass rate of 74.78 percent. Repeat takers didn’t fare as well, with only 35 of 138 passing — a pass rate of 25.36 percent.

The results are consistent with national trends in which February administrations typically draw a higher proportion of repeat takers. North Carolina’s February 2025 overall pass rate was 50 percent, making the February 2026 rate of 56.04 percent a modest improvement year over year.
